Rarely do I receive anonymous comments. But even more rarely do I receive one that I feel the need to respond to. Actually I never respond to comments - sorry about that. I just cant seem to find the time.
Here is the comment that I received this afternoon (and my response will follow):
I would like to be an anonymous voice of reason for all of you ladies. Weight and exercise has become an obsession along with wanting to be a 'hot mom'. You are playing right into the hands of advertising media and perpetuating an extremely unhealthy and inappropriate trend. Please stop. Use discipline and self control while finding other positive and productive ways to engage your mind. This was meant kindly.
Response from Shauna:
Dear Anonymous,
I truly believe that you do have kind and honorable intentions in your feedback. And I agree with you to an extent. Let me start with what I agree with:
1. Advertising Media puts out a tough image for us women to keep up with. It can be so disheartening and it can lead women toward unhealthy practices and terrible self-image issues.
2. Use discipline and self-control.
3. Be productive in how you use your mind.
Here are the areas in which I want to encourage you to expand your view of me. I cant really speak for anyone else. But here goes. Let's see what I can do for myself here.
1. I believe that I was fearfully and wonderfully made. Part of that is in how God made my physical body. It is important to me that I take care of what He created for me. I would love to look fabulous for my 10 year reunion...because...what the heck...why not...but I truly have that same drive every single day of my life. I love to get my hair cut, put on a little self tanner, and sweat really hard at the gym. It just makes me feel good. But it is not for a moment - where I find my true self-worth.
2. In no way do I obsess about the "hot mom" concept nor do I encourage it. I believe it is so vital to find yourself as a woman - and feel "hot" whether you are 100lbs or 200lbs or whatever. I think that most of your position in your comment for me came from the words that I used: "starvation diets". Well...let me address that.
My menu for the day: Cheerios for Breakfast, 2 cups of coffee - with cream, a bottle of water, a diet dr. pepper, mcd's fish fillet sandwich, fries (large), Dr. Pepper, strawberries, pasta salad, cream cheese stuff mushrooms (that I made myself).
Anyhow - the point of this is: I am kind of sarcastic (any time you actually have to say that out loud, it just doesn't sound right)...but when I said the words: "starvation diets"...I didn't mean it. Not one bit. That is just not my style. Nor do I encourage it. I have a sassy mouth and I am sorry that you couldn't hear that in my post.
In conclusion (I always loved using that phrase in my high school English papers), I hope that you know me a little better now after this post. I would never starve myself. I have never once in my life kept from eating. I love it. I have also never thrown up to get rid of food. I have never worked out so much to burn off the food that I just ate. I am just a normal girl. Or maybe I am not normal. Who knows really. I do love to look pretty for my precious husband. And I don't think it is terrible to desire beauty. I think it is natural and part of how God created us as women. I love that part of being a woman. Anyhow - I am going to end this...because it seems futile to keep talking to someone that I dont even know. For all I know - this was Laura leaving a comment just to get me to address her personally on my blog.
Here you go Laura - this is for you! :)

Um...I totally heard the sarcasm, but maybe it takes one to know one!?! ;)
Keep it up sassy mouth :)
uh oh, I might have spurred annonymous on with my "go to your reuion with your hot mama self" comment. But, alas, you are a hot mama, we all are. We talk about our lives, the products we love, the struggles, the doubts...it's what we do. We could all do a little better loving ourselves as we are, but how much fun would THAT blog be to read? Keep up your sarcasm and don't feel the need to point it out.
Oh, and annonymous, please don't come to my blog, I talk about wii fit and the sexy male trainer and my goal to be 2 lbs lighter. I also have a post with a gentleman wearing an "I heart Hot Moms" shirt, all totally inappropriate.
I'm going to try harder to get some content on my blog that is more self loving.
Whatever. Anonymous needs a life so she can have less time to judge others. Pretty big words from someone who isn't even willing to give their friggin name. But you know, whatev.
I LOVE that you are a christian, and cool, love your husband, and most importantly eat cream cheese stuffed mushrooms. I also could tell you were sarcastic and kind of question someone who couldn't. You do whatever diet, wear whatever swimsuit, and chop your cute hair however you want. I'm sure you will be the hottest mom at the reunion!
You don't need to worry about what anonymous says. We, who truly know you, understand where you are coming from. I'm not worried about your self-worth one bit. I know you well enough to know that you love to eat and that you look great no matter what weight you are at. I love you, Shauna!!!
JB
amen sista! that was excellently written beautiful girl!
Very well said..."hot mama" ;)
Keep up the sarcasm
I SWEAR it wasn't me!!!! But, thanks for the shout out anyway!!
Who knew we all had so many problems. I was more stressed about who anonymous said I was than who I thought I was when I just wanted to be healthy and look better.
I gotta go eat a donut or something!
Ok really... if the anonymous person is so worried about you she or he should use their name!! I think you responded to the comment very well! I agree with your reply 100%... You have to feel good about your self and only you know what your goal should be! WELL PUT! PS I think you look fabulous!
I think it's ok to starve yourself. I think it's an important part of daily life to make sure one avoids food...most importantly...if God didn't want us to binge and purge ...He wouldn't have given us a gag reflex.
I think Anonymous is on to something...we are all self loving, diet crazed, work out machines...
****SARCASM RULES******
Seriously - I thank God everyday for the little bit of crazy He put in each and every one of us. I love how you want to lose weight to look good for Kipper (and more importantly for you and your health), I love that my flappy triceps and fatty back (remember that!!) are ways God reminds me everyday that I am blessed to have full meals at my table, and I love that I can work out like a maniac b/c God blessed me with working legs, heart, body, etc...
Anonymous - I'll pray that you learn to love sarcasm...and find courage to stand up for what you believe....b/c staying Anonymous means doesn't give much "umph" in your thoughts...
LOVE YOU, Shauna! BFF 4-evah....
You totally handled Anonymous's loud mouth better than I would have! Go you!
YOU ARE A HOT MOM!
P.S. Anonymous, please don't visit my site... you might not get my sarcasm or care that I like to look hot for my hubby and strive for personal growth including toning my body!
Oh man...I'm fuming. First of all...#2. I love it. This person needs to mind their own biz. I put on self tanner, have hair extensions, work out, get microdermabrasion, botox, as Honey B would say...whatev. Come on girl. God make us uniquely. I can do whatever I want with my body that is a temple and so can you. Don't be quick to judge anonymous...look at your own self and stay out of other's biz. Shauna is a wonderful, sweet person on the inside and out and that is what matters!
